Ernest Withers- FBI Informant?!

Ernest Withers known for his photographs from the Civil Rights Movement was allegedly an FBI informant. Shocking as this is, it doesn't detract from his work. Some of Wither's photographs of notable musicians can be seen at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art in the exhibit, "Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History 1955-Present" an exhibit organized by the Brooklyn Museum and guest curated by Gail Buckland. (Wither's photographs were added to the exhibit for Memphis, and are not traveling with the exhibit.)

Lost Ansel Adams Photos

A man claiming to own lost Ansel Adams negatives faces setbacks when a curator recants his earlier findings that they are in fact Ansel Adams photos.

Southern Accents Ceasing Publication

It's really sad to see most any company closing it's doors, but it especially saddens me see magazines succumb to the economy. Print media is becoming a dying breed in an age where most people read more off of a screen then they do off of paper. Southern Accents wasn't a magazine I often picked up. Growing up it was a magazine my mother sometimes purchased or had a subcription to, I'd see it in waiting rooms, and peoples houses. Like Southern Living, a sister publication, it embodied what being a "southerner" was all about. I know very few people that actually have the time to prepare elaborate "harvest tables" at Thanksgiving or cover the entirety of their house in garland at Christmas, but that was what was magical about it. Its grandeur was befitting of a dress Scarlett O'Hara would wear or a southern debutante ball. For years I held the "southern style" in contempt, I think because of my desire to be somewhere as fabulous as New York that was trendy and posh. And now as I fully begin to appreciate all the charm the South and its style has to offer, we are loosing a design and southern staple. I regret that as I begin my journey into the interior design field I miss my chance to become a devouted reader of Southern Accents as I am with other design magazines.
